Parties offer no real hope for the many homeless via The Age

Homeless Persons Week, which ends on Sunday, has come and gone with neither Labor nor the federal Coaliton offering any new certainty or commitments on homelessness. The new Rudd government has vaguely recommitted to its 2020 target, without saying what it is prepared to spend to get there. The federal opposition has taken Labor to task for failing to meet even an interim deadline of a 7 per cent cut in homelessness by 2013, yet the Coalition has offered no new policy beyond a promise to tighten criteria and impose performance benchmarks on how the states spend money.
